Can You Fly DJI FPV in Sport Mode? How Good it is?

Knowing that DJI FPV is an FPV drone, does it have the "Sport Mode"? (You probably know the answer) But how well is it?

Can You Fly DJI FPV in Sport Mode? How Good it is?

The DJI FPV is an excellent drone for flying and producing beautiful cinematic footage as well as starting off in flying FPV. But can you fly DJI FPV in sport mode?

The DJI FPV can fly in sport mode, and when you fly it in sport mode with the headset on, it provides an immersive FPV experience. In this scenario, you will be able to go at fast speeds while avoiding the challenging manual mode controls.

But that’s not all, and although the answer paragraph may give you a glimpse of DJI FPV Sport Mode, there is more information we need to cover. Shall we carry on?

DJI FPV Sport Mode – What do we need to know?

To firstly understand the sport mode of the DJI FPV, let’s get to know all the DJI FPV modes and their role.

DJI FPV drone has three modes: Normal, Sport and Manual mode.

In the normal mode, which is the default setting, the majority of drones on the market can be flown safely at lower speeds. When flying in normal mode, the DJI FPV drone can use the frontal sensors to react and avoid crashing if it comes too close to an object.

The DJI FPV was primarily developed for the Manual mode, which allows users to fly FPV to the highest standards, take full advantage of manual control, and fly acrobatically. For fast cinematic footage, this mode of DJI FPV is fantastic.

The Sport mode is located in the middle, between Normal and Manual modes. Although the controls and speed are different from manual mode, it is still much faster than using the DJI FPV in normal mode.

The DJI FPV In sport mode can reach speeds up to 27m/s, equivalent to nearly 100km/h or just over 60 miles per hour.

The maximum speed in normal mode is 15 m/s, which translates to 54 km/h (33 mph) is way slower than the maximum speed in manual mode, which is 39 m/s, which translates to 140 km/h (87 mph).

Even so, the sport mode is the most convenient way to fly DJI FPV drone at high speeds while avoiding the challenges of manual flight.

How to get the DJI FPV in sport mode

Using the N, S, and M-labeled button on the controller’s back, you can switch the DJI FPV into sport mode. S represents sport, N represents normal, and M, manual mode.

We do have the S, or sport mode, in the middle. Be cautious because it’s simple to switch from normal to manual mode and miss sport mode.

Is it safe to fly DJI FPV in sport mode compared to normal mode? What about as compared to manual mode?

The quick option on the DJI FPV drone is sport mode, which allows you to fly the drone at high speed while staying in regular mode. Flying in sport mode is riskier than flying normally for two reasons:

  • The DJI FPV drone’s obstacle avoidance system is inactive because the frontal sensors are available to use in normal mode only.
  • The current speed is nearly double that of normal mode, where the drone accelerates faster, is very sensitive to turns, and requires some skill to fly DJI FPV before you go sport mode.
  • Both of the above reasons represent some real risks to flying the DJI FPV drone in sport mode as compared to normal mode.

But what about flying the drone in sport mode compared to manual mode?

Flying the DJI FPV drone in sport mode as opposed to manual mode while still being able to reach incredible speeds, is safer, much safer.

Please keep in mind that without the right training, you will not be able to fly the drone in manual mode safely.

If you plan to fly in manual mode (or sport mode, which is different from manual), I urge you to read one article listed below:

Can you capture cinematic footage flying the DJI FPV in sport mode?

It’s amazing to think about how easy it is to get cinematic footage when flying in manual mode with practice and skill. How about using the DJI FPV in sport mode, though?

In fact, you’ll be astonished at how effectively you can record cinematic footage while using the DJI FPV in sport mode.

It is a steady and direct way to get to fantastic speeds, which will allow you to get cinematic footage.

In a previous article, I made reference to a YouTuber who uses the DJI FPV and tests it for cinematic purposes in both normal and sport modes. The video will be embedded here.

What else to know when flying the DJI FPV in sport mode?

There are a few things you should always remember if you want to fly the DJI FPV in sport mode:

  • When flying in sport mode (or manual, for that matter), the DJI FPV frontal sensors will be turned off, so the avoidance system won’t function at all.
  • Normal mode is known to be sensible at turnings without proper adjustment to the DJI FPV Controller’s expo rates, but sport mode is notoriously difficult to maneuver at first.
  • Always take the drone out for a few normal flights before switching to sport mode if you recently purchased it. Simply put, it is safer to get used to the new DJI FPV drone in this manner.
  • The camera gimbal has 10-degree electronic stabilization. In order to get smooth cinematic captures, ensure you take advantage of that and turn your DJI FPV smoothly. This will give you the extra advantage of unique flight perspective footage.
  • Remember, the emergency stop button is one tap away if you feel you lose control of the DJI FPV drone in sport mode.
